The Investigation Police Agency of Bắc Ninh Provincial Police has issued decisions to initiate a criminal case, prosecute the accused, and place a suspect in temporary detention for illegally trading a large quantity of explosive fireworks – further demonstrating that firework-related violations remain complex as the Lunar New Year approaches.

According to information from Bắc Ninh Provincial Police, at around 11:00 a.m. on December 21, 2025, while performing their duties, a task force from the Economic Police Department of Bắc Ninh Provincial Police, in coordination with Tiên Lục Commune Police, inspected a Toyota Camry with license plate 98A-009.69 parked on Provincial Road 292, passing through Bến Phà Hamlet, Tiên Lục Commune. The vehicle was driven by Nguyễn Văn Hường (born in 1980, residing in Cả Hamlet, Kép Commune, Bắc Ninh Province). Upon inspection, authorities discovered four tightly tied sacks inside the car, containing 90 boxes suspected to be explosive fireworks, each box holding 36 pieces, originating from China.

Prosecution and temporary detention of the firework trafficker

During questioning, Nguyễn Văn Hường admitted that he was transporting the fireworks from Kép Commune to Bố Hạ Commune for sale and profit. The task force seized all 90 boxes of explosive fireworks, one automobile, and one mobile phone to serve the investigation. Expert examination confirmed that the total weight of the seized explosive fireworks was 132.5 kg. On December 25, 2025, the Investigation Police Agency of Bắc Ninh Provincial Police issued decisions to initiate a criminal case, prosecute the accused, and order temporary detention of Nguyễn Văn Hường for the crime of “Trading in prohibited goods” (explosive fireworks) under Clause 3, Article 190 of the Penal Code. This is the third case involving the illegal trading of explosive fireworks uncovered by the Economic Police Department of Bắc Ninh Provincial Police since the launch of the peak campaign to crack down on crime and ensure security and order. Previously, authorities had detected two other cases, seizing a total of 293 kg of explosive fireworks and prosecuting two suspects.

Continued tightening of management and strict handling of firework violations

In the coming period, Bắc Ninh Provincial Police stated that they will continue to direct professional units and grassroots police forces to strengthen situation monitoring, promptly detect, combat, and strictly handle acts of illegal production, trading, storage, transportation, and use of fireworks – especially before, during, and after the Lunar New Year.
